You searched because the books in Palestine, or somewhere else in Anderson County, are behind and a date is coming. The history below is the place. The path under that is what you send, what happens first, and what you get back. There is no Anderson County office to sit in.
Anderson County sits in East Texas between the Trinity River and the Neches River, and the seat is Palestine. It was established in 1846 from Houston County. The name is Kenneth Lewis Anderson, who lived from 1805 to 1845 and was the last vice president of the Republic of Texas.
The Handbook of Texas puts part of the county in the East Texas Timberlands. Pine grows there, and so do red oak, post oak, white oak, pecan, walnut, hickory, elm, and ash. That same entry says peanuts, sweet potatoes, hay, and fruits and nuts stayed important as crops. Oil is in the record too. Traces showed up in 1881, the Keechi Salt Dome was proved in 1916, the Boggy Creek Dome was found in 1926, and the handbook dates the first successful producer, the Humble-Lizzie Smith well, to January 1928.
Near the site of present-day Elkhart, the handbook describes Old Pilgrim and calls it reputedly the oldest Protestant church in Texas. Highways 287, 79, and 84 are the routes it names through the county. If you keep the books in Palestine or elsewhere in Anderson County, the week you actually have is timber, a crop calendar, and oil. It is not a copy of the county next door.
The July 2026 Comptroller figure used here shows a county sales tax of 0.5% for Anderson County. State sales tax is 6.25%. Where a city inside the county has its own city sales tax, that city rate stacks on top of the state rate and the county rate. The combined cap is 8.25%. This page does not list each city's rate.
Business personal property renditions go to the county appraisal district for Anderson County. The date to put on the calendar is April 15. Use that district's form, and follow its instructions for which date controls the property list.
The Texas franchise report is due May 15. Texas has no state income tax. That fact does not close the sales-tax return, and it does not close the May report.
A pine settlement and an oil stub can both be true of Palestine in the same week, and they still cannot share a bucket. Peanuts in the ground, sweet potatoes, and a stack of hardwood are a third timing problem. The Neches side of the county drains through Hurricane Creek, Lone Creek, and Brushy Creek. The Trinity side drains through Massey Lake, Mansion Creek, and Keechie Creek. Fuquay-Kirvin-Darco is a soil name in the handbook, not a vendor you pay. Old Pilgrim, near present-day Elkhart, is a church the handbook calls reputedly the oldest Protestant one in Texas. None of those names codes a deposit. Mound Prairie's old school is history beside the pile, not a line on the PDF.
If the PDF says Boggy Creek or Keechi, it belongs with the oil record that runs from the 1881 traces through the 1928 Humble-Lizzie Smith producer. If the PDF is a mill or a yard, it belongs with red oak, post oak, white oak, pecan, walnut, hickory, elm, ash, and pine. Write which pile it is before you touch software. Highways 287, 79, and 84 only tell you how the truck got to town.
