Angelina County is timber country, and the books in Lufkin get messy in a timber way: a bill for logs, a deposit for boards, and a month that treated them as the same event. You can have that sorted without leaving the county for an office.
Angelina County is in the East Texas Timberlands, northeast of Houston, and the seat is Lufkin. It was established in 1846 from Nacogdoches County. The name is a Hainai woman who assisted early Spanish missionaries and whom they called Little Angel. The county file records the Spanish form of that name as Angelina. The handbook adds that Spanish legend places her help around 1690.
The Angelina River bounds the county on the north and the Neches River bounds it on the south. The handbook says the piney woods hold longleaf, shortleaf, loblolly, and slash pines, plus hardwoods, and that sand and mud through much of the county contain lignite and bentonite. The economic turn it describes is the railroad. The Houston, East and West Texas Railway was built through in 1882, and the Kansas and Gulf Short Line, which later became the Cotton Belt, followed. Timber that could not move before could move then.
Highways 59 and 69 are the routes named in the opening of that entry. If you keep books in Lufkin, the week is still often a timber week. What is a log or a board in the yard, and what has already gone out on a truck, are different facts. That is this county's shape.
Angelina County's July 2026 Comptroller figure is a county sales tax of 0.5%. Add the state sales tax of 6.25%. A city rate stacks on top of both where the city charges one. Combined, the cap is 8.25%. City lines are not reprinted here.

May 15 is the franchise report. Texas charges no state income tax, which still leaves both of those filings on the calendar. The city rate is that city's own figure. This page does not guess it.
