The weekend has a date. Until that date, the card charge is not yours.
Bandera County's own economy, as the handbook tells it, came to include guests: boarders, then dude ranches. If you have been paid for a weekend that has not happened, the books have a specific job. This page is that job, done on a shared file, with no office in Bandera to drive to.
The town of Bandera is the seat. The county was cut from Bexar County in 1856. The name is the pass, and the county file traces that pass to the Spanish word for flag. Highways 16, 46, and 173 are how you cross it.
The handbook's early work story is a cypress sawmill for shingles. Sixteen Polish families arrived in February 1855 to cut that timber. August Klappenbach opened the store and the post office in August of that year. St. Stanislaus is the parish those families formed. The Sabinal takes the west side and the Medina takes the east, with cedar and cypress in the bottoms.
The blunt later fact is guests. In 1920 Cora and Ed Buck began taking summer boarders on Julian Creek. Restaurants, dance halls, and dude ranches followed, and the handbook calls that a resort. Frontier Times Museum, Medina, Tarpley, and Vanderpool are other names in the same entry. A Saturday nobody has stayed yet is the week an owner here actually has.
Guest deposits do not change the calendar the state already set. The business personal property rendition for Bandera County is due April 15 at the county appraisal district. The franchise report is due May 15. Texas has no state income tax.
The July 2026 Comptroller figure used here shows a county sales tax of 0.5%. State sales tax is 6.25%. A city rate stacks on top. The combined cap is 8.25%. Whether tax belongs on a particular guest charge is a question for the return, not a number this page invents. City rates stay off this page.
Someone paid for a cabin on Julian Creek, the card settled Monday, and the stay is Saturday. Cora and Ed Buck started that kind of summer boarding in 1920, and the handbook says dance halls, restaurants, and dude ranches followed. Monday's charge is not Monday's income. A dance-hall night that already happened is a different line. Code them together and a cancellation looks like a loss you cannot explain. Cypress shingles cut by the Polish families who arrived in February 1855, and August Klappenbach's store from that August, are the older town. St. Stanislaus is their parish. Mark the unstayed cabin one way and the night that already played another way. If both sit in income, the books claim you no longer owe the guest a stay. That claim is the error. The Sabinal and the Medina stay rivers. They do not go on the slip. Bandera Pass, from the Spanish word for flag, named the county and still will not name the date.

The entry calls the soils alkaline and shallow over limy subsoils, and names bluestems, grama, buffalo grass, winter grass, and wild ryes. The same entry mentions rockshelters, Koenigheim, Milstead, a horse-powered mill, and a commissary.
