Baylor County is north central Texas, seat Seymour, and the Comptroller file shows no county sales tax. That does not tell you what Thursday's deposit was. The close is remote.
Baylor County was established in 1858 from Fannin County. The seat is Seymour. The name is Henry Weidner Baylor, a surgeon with a Texas Ranger regiment in the Mexican-American War. The new county was attached to Jack County for courts until it was organized in 1879 with Seymour as the seat.
The handbook places the county in North Central Texas, drained by the Salt Fork of the Brazos and the Big Wichita. Grasses, mesquite, and juniper cover sandy, loam, and red soils. In 1848 agent Robert S. Neighbors found Comanche, Tonkawa, and Wichita lodges on Lewis Creek at the site of present Seymour. The Wanderers, a Comanche band, had used the ground as buffalo range. Lasting settlement followed the Red River War of 1874. The first settlement the entry names is Round Timber, southeast of Seymour. C. C. Mills was there by 1870, left during raids, and was back by 1875 beside J. W. Stevens. In 1876 settlers led by J. R. McClain reached the Seymour site from Oregon and were driven off when cowboys ran cattle through their corn.
After that, the work was ranch country arguing with farmers. If the check in your hand is cattle, say so. Round Timber is a place in the entry, not a line on the deposit. The Cresset opened in 1880, the Seymour Scimeter followed it, and the Baylor County Banner came after those. The Wichita Valley Railway is the line that reached Seymour.

The July 2026 Comptroller figure used here shows no county sales tax for Baylor County. State sales tax is 6.25%. Where a city has its own rate, that city rate stacks on the state rate and any county rate. The combined cap is 8.25%. City rates are not listed on this page.
Business personal property renditions go to the county appraisal district for Baylor County. Put April 15 on the calendar. That district's form says which date controls the list.
The franchise report is due May 15. Texas has no state income tax. Neither date goes away because of that.
No county sales tax does not classify a Seymour deposit. The Salt Fork of the Brazos and the Big Wichita drain the county and still do not say whether the credit is a calf, a shop receipt, or money you are holding for someone else. In 1879 the Millett brothers, Eugene C., Alonzo, and Hiram, came up from Guadalupe County and used armed hands against new settlers. That feud is over. County judge E. R. Morris was killed in June 1879 by saloon keeper Will Taylor. Do not file this month's check under that shooting or under the Red River War. Lewis Creek and the Wanderers explain why Neighbors stopped here in 1848. Jack County only held the early court attachment.
Bomarton and Westover sit in that county story with Round Timber and Seymour. The Cresset, the Seymour Scimeter, and the Baylor County Banner are newspapers.
