Bell County's seat is Belton, along the Balcones Escarpment. The rivers are the landmark. The mess is still which deposit is which. Remote is how this gets looked at.
Bell County was established in 1850 from Milam County. The seat is Belton. The name is Peter Hansborough Bell, the third governor of Texas from 1849 to 1853.
The handbook puts the county in east central Texas along the Balcones Escarpment. Interstate 35 and state highways 195, 95, and 317 run north and south. U.S. 190 and state highway 36 cross the other way. The Burlington Northern Santa Fe and the Union Pacific both serve the county. The Little River forms where the Leon, the Lampasas, and the Salado meet at Three Forks. East of the Balcones fault the ground is Blackland Prairie, and the handbook names Houston black clay as the common farming soil. West of the fault the soils run shallower and stonier, with oak, juniper, pine, and mesquite, and the entry describes ranching there. Belton Lake and Stillhouse Hollow Lake are water on that map. Minerals listed include limestone, oil, gas, sand, gravel, and dolomite. Lampasas and Burnet lie to the west. Coryell, McLennan, Falls, Milam, and Williamson border the rest.
A west-side ranch draw and an east-side farm ticket can both be Bell County. Three Forks is where the rivers join. It is not where the accounts join. Youngsport, the Stillhouse Hollow Site, and the peoples called Wacos, Anadarkos, and Kiowas are earlier than that farm and ranch split. Killeen, Harker Heights, Nolanville, Temple, Holland, and Rogers are later town names in the same entry. Troy, Heidenheimer, and Little River Academy are on that list too.
Belton owners can have a ranch week on one side of the escarpment and a farm week on the other.
The July 2026 Comptroller figure used here shows a county sales tax of 0.5% for Bell County. State sales tax is 6.25%. Where a city has its own rate, that city rate stacks on the state rate and any county rate. The combined cap is 8.25%. City rates are not listed on this page.
Business personal property renditions go to the county appraisal district for Bell County. Put April 15 on the calendar. That district's form says which date controls the list.
The franchise report is due May 15. Texas has no state income tax. Neither date goes away because of that.
West of the fault the handbook talks about livestock grazing and about oak, juniper, and pine. East of it, farms on Houston black clay. Both sides drain toward the Little River through the Leon, the Lampasas, and the Salado, which meet at Three Forks. A confluence is not a journal entry. Peter Hansborough Bell's governorship is the county name. Interstate 35 is how traffic passes Belton. The two railroads move freight. None of them codes the credit. Salado in this entry is a river before it is anything else. Write the side of the fault, not the legend.
Killeen, Harker Heights, and Nolanville are contiguous communities that entry names. Temple, Salado, Holland, and Rogers are other towns in the same account. Youngsport and the Stillhouse Hollow Site are earlier places. Wacos, Anadarkos, and Kiowas are peoples in the early record, not a side of the fault. A ranch draw from the stony west and a farm check from the blackland east can both be this county. Three Forks is only where the Leon, the Lampasas, and the Salado meet.
