Bexar County was established in 1836 and the county file lists it among the original 23 counties. The seat is San Antonio. The name comes from San Antonio de Bexar, the major presidio in Mexican Texas, itself named for the San Antonio River and for the Spanish viceroy's family, the Dukes of Bejar. The handbook gives the pronunciation BAY-har.
The handbook puts the county on the interior coastal plain of south central Texas, crossed by the Balcones Escarpment, with the northwest corner on the Edwards Plateau. Springs feed the San Antonio River and San Pedro Creek. The Medina River and Medio, Leon, Helotes, Salado, and Calvares creeks join that river. Cibolo Creek is the line toward Comal and Guadalupe. Glenrose Hills hold the high ground in the far northwest. The Edwards Flint Hills sit lower and farther southeast. North of the escarpment the cover is plateau grasses, live oak, juniper, and mesquite. A central strip is Blackland Prairie. Farther south the cover is South Texas Plains brush and cacti. Minerals the entry names include sulfur springs, limestone, kaolin, fuller's earth, greensand, lignite, petroleum, and natural gas. Interstates 10, 37, 35, and 410 cross the county, with Union Pacific branches and San Antonio International Airport.
No county sales tax does not mean every San Antonio deposit is the same kind of money. The springs explain the river. They do not explain the file. Yanaguana was an older name for the river site, and Payaya people were living on that bank before the presidio.

Business personal property renditions go to the county appraisal district for Bexar County. Put April 15 on the calendar. That district's form says which date controls the list.
The franchise report is due May 15. Texas has no state income tax. Neither date goes away because of that.
