Bosque County was established in 1854 from McLennan County. The seat is Meridian. The name is the Bosque River. Bosque is Spanish for wooded.
The handbook puts the county in Central Texas, on the Grand Prairie, about sixty miles south of Dallas-Fort Worth and forty miles north of Waco. The Brazos borders the east. The Bosque River cuts north to south through the middle. Kimball's Bend is the bend on the Brazos the entry calls well known. Lake Whitney was built on that river in 1951 at the southeastern edge of the county. Bottoms grow elm, cottonwood, river birch, sycamore, ash, pecan, and oak. Upland shows flat-topped hills, white limestone cliffs, cedar, and mesquite, and the entry says Johnson grass is the common prairie grass. Smaller streams it names include Duffan's Creek, Honey Creek, Turkey Creek, Meridian Creek, Mill Creek, and Mesquite Creek. Limestone is the only commercial mineral it records. State highways 6, 22, 144, and 174 cross the county. Erath and Somervell lie north, Hamilton west, McLennan and Coryell south, Johnson and Hill east.
A bottomland timber ticket and an upland ranch or shop ticket can share a Meridian week. The wooded name does not merge them. The entry groups Clifton, Norse, and Cranfills Gap, and it names Tawakoni people on this ground earlier.
Meridian sits on a wooded river county, and the week can still be two kinds of money.
The July 2026 Comptroller figure used here shows a county sales tax of 0.5% for Bosque County. State sales tax is 6.25%. Where a city has its own rate, that city rate stacks on the state rate and any county rate. The combined cap is 8.25%. City rates are not listed on this page.
Business personal property renditions go to the county appraisal district for Bosque County. Put April 15 on the calendar. That district's form says which date controls the list.
The franchise report is due May 15. Texas has no state income tax. Neither date goes away because of that.

Highways 6 and 22 reach the courthouse in Meridian. They do not classify the credit. Erath, Somervell, Hamilton, McLennan, Coryell, Johnson, and Hill only border the county. Sixty miles from Dallas-Fort Worth is distance. It is not a drive you owe anyone for this close, and Waco is not a drop-off either.
Kopperl and the rock called Solomon's Nose are in that account, and Josephus M. Steiner donated the land where Meridian was laid out. Clifton, Norse, and Cranfills Gap are grouped together, and the entry mentions Peerson with them. Tawakoni people were on this ground earlier. A pecan settlement from the bottoms and a check from the limestone upland can share a week in Meridian. The useful word is bottom, prairie, or mineral. Add the creek printed on the invoice, whether that is Honey Creek, Duffan's Creek, or Mill Creek. Ole Canuteson, Cleng Peerson, and the surnames Ringness, Dahl, and Questad are the Norwegian settlers that entry names.
