Brazoria County's seat is Angleton, at the mouth of the Brazos on the Gulf prairie. The split in the land is real. The split in the books has to be written down. Remote is how.
Brazoria County was established in 1836 and the county file lists it among the original 23 counties. The seat is Angleton. The name is the town of Brazoria, an early port on the Brazos River.
The handbook puts the county on the Gulf Coast prairie at the mouth of the Brazos, beside Matagorda, Fort Bend, Harris, and Galveston. The Brazos divides it. The western third is hardwoods, with pin oak, live oak, mulberry, hackberry, ash, elm, cottonwood, and pecan in the bottoms. The rest is mostly prairie, and the coastal marshes carry cordgrass and sedges. Damon Mound is the high point it names. Besides the Brazos, the streams include the San Bernard River, Oyster Creek, Bastrop Bayou, and Chocolate Bayou. The Gulf Intracoastal Waterway crosses near the coast. State highways 6, 35, 36, and 288 cross the county, with the Union Pacific and the Burlington Northern Santa Fe. Towns named in the entry include Alvin, Pearland, West Columbia, Sweeny, Damon, and the Brazosport group of Clute, Freeport, Quintana, Lake Jackson, and Surfside Beach. The entry says magnesium is taken from seawater, and that oil, gas, sulfur, salt, lime, sand, and gravel concentrate around Damon Mound, West Columbia, and Freeport. Karankawa camps lined the earlier coast. A fight at Jones Creek in 1824 is part of that record. The Brazoria and San Bernard national wildlife refuges sit near the Gulf.
A hardwood-side ticket and a prairie or plant ticket can both be this county. The old port of Brazoria explains the name. It does not explain the deposit. Rosharon, Danbury, Liverpool, Manvel, Bailey's Prairie, Iowa Colony, and Bonney are other town names on that list.
Angleton's file can belong to hardwoods, to prairie, or to the plants along the river mouth.
The July 2026 Comptroller figure used here shows a county sales tax of 0.5% for Brazoria County. State sales tax is 6.25%. Where a city has its own rate, that city rate stacks on the state rate and any county rate. The combined cap is 8.25%. City rates are not listed on this page.
Business personal property renditions go to the county appraisal district for Brazoria County. Put April 15 on the calendar. That district's form says which date controls the list.
The franchise report is due May 15. Texas has no state income tax. Neither date goes away because of that.
West of the Brazos the handbook describes hardwoods, including hackberry, mulberry, and pin oak in the bottoms. East of it, prairie, with Damon Mound as the high ground and cordgrass in the marshes. Chocolate Bayou, Oyster Creek, Bastrop Bayou, and the San Bernard are water. Bastrop Bayou is not Bastrop County. Write the bayou when that is the job site, and write Angleton when the ticket is the seat. Clute, Freeport, Quintana, Lake Jackson, and Surfside Beach sit in the Brazosport group in the entry. Alvin, Pearland, West Columbia, Sweeny, and Damon are other names it lists. A hardwood settlement, a prairie farm ticket, and a plant statement, including seawater magnesium when that is truly your work, are three objects. Sulfur, salt, and lime belong in the plant pile only when the stub says so. Jones Creek in 1824 and the Karankawa camps are the early record, not a customer list. The two wildlife refuges are not departments.
Velasco and Columbia were incorporated early, and East Columbia is named with them. Liverpool, Rosharon, Danbury, and Manvel are other communities on that list. A hardwood ticket from west of the Brazos, a prairie ticket, and a plant statement from Freeport or Damon Mound are three objects. Chocolate Bayou and Oyster Creek are water. The Intracoastal Waterway is a channel. Magnesium from seawater counts only when that is actually your plant.
