Burleson County's seat is the town of Caldwell. That town is not Caldwell County. The Brazos is the east line. Two kinds of money can still share one account. Remote is how the file gets seen.
Edward Burleson, a general in the Texas Revolution and a vice president of the Republic, is the name. The seat is the town of Caldwell, which is not Caldwell County and not Lockhart. The county was created in 1846 from Milam County.
Milam lies north, Robertson and Brazos east, Washington south, and Lee west. The Brazos is the east line. Yegua Creek and East Yegua Creek drain the west and south and meet the Brazos at the southeast corner. Somerville Lake sits on Yegua Creek beside the town of Somerville. State Highway 36 runs north and south. State Highway 21 runs east and west. The Union Pacific and the Burlington Northern Santa Fe both serve the county. A grassland strip called the San Antonio Prairie crosses the middle. That strip is not Bexar County.
Tonkawa camps lined these creeks. Tawakoni and Waco parties appear in the raid record, and Caddo hunters crossed toward the Colorado. Bluestem and Indian grass grow on the prairie strip. The Somerville Wildlife Management Area sits by the reservoir.
The town of Caldwell can have a bottom week and a prairie week.
The July 2026 Comptroller figure used here shows a county sales tax of 0.5% for Burleson County. State sales tax is 6.25%. Where a city has its own rate, that city rate stacks on the state rate and any county rate. The combined cap is 8.25%. City rates are not listed on this page.
Business personal property renditions go to the county appraisal district for Burleson County. Put April 15 on the calendar. That district's form says which date controls the list.
The franchise report is due May 15. Texas has no state income tax. Neither date goes away because of that.
Caldwell is the courthouse. Say Burleson in the same breath so nobody hears Lockhart. Somerville sits on Yegua beside the reservoir. East Yegua is the Lee side. The San Antonio grassland strip across the middle is not the city of San Antonio. State Highway 36 and State Highway 21 only move trucks. The Union Pacific and the Burlington Northern Santa Fe only move freight. Louis Juchereau de St. Denis used the Upper Road, later the Old San Antonio Road. Tonkawa camps lined Yegua. Tawakoni and Waco belong to that older record. Peat bogs sit low along the river. Blackjack and hickory mix off that grassland. The Somerville Wildlife Management Area sits by the reservoir. Milam is the 1846 parent. Washington and Robertson only border you. Lee is one border. Caldwell is not Lockhart and not the Caldwell tract. Yegua meets the Brazos at the far corner. East Yegua is the other channel. Somerville Lake sits on Yegua beside Somerville. Czech settlements include Frenstat, New Tabor, and Sebesta, later called Snook. Cooks Point and Deanville are other settlements. A branch of the Chisholm Trail passed Deanville toward Waco. Sicilian families settled as field labor along the river. A river week and a grassland week can both be real in the same month here in Burleson.
