North water to the Brazos, south water to the Colorado. Clyde is the other town, not a second ledger.
Callahan County's seat is Baird, on the Rolling Plains east of Abilene. No county sales tax is on this file. A credit from Clyde and a credit from Baird can still be different money. The close is remote.
Baird took the courthouse after a short election at Callahan City and a longer stay at Belle Plain. Clyde is the other town, east of Abilene and still inside this county rather than Taylor County. James Hughes Callahan, a Revolution soldier who survived the Goliad Massacre and later led the Callahan expedition, is the namesake. The county was formed in 1858 from Bexar, Bosque, and Travis, and organization waited until 1877.
The Callahan Divide runs east to west across the Rolling Plains. North of that low range, water runs toward the Brazos. South of it, water runs toward the Colorado. The east quarter is Cross Timbers. Shackelford and Jones lie north, Eastland east, Coleman and Brown south, Taylor west. Interstate 20 and the Missouri Pacific cross the prairie.
Baird and Clyde are both here. They are not one income line by default.
The July 2026 Comptroller figure used here shows no county sales tax for Callahan County. State sales tax is 6.25%. Where a city has its own rate, that city rate stacks on the state rate and any county rate. The combined cap is 8.25%. City rates are not listed on this page.
Business personal property renditions go to the county appraisal district for Callahan County. Put April 15 on the calendar. That district's form says which date controls the list.
The franchise report is due May 15. Texas has no state income tax. Neither date goes away because of that.
On a Tuesday the file can hold a Clyde slip and a Baird slip. Clyde stays on this side of the Taylor County line. If the job has a basin, put that basin beside the town instead of leaving the deposit unlabeled. Missing county sales tax does not make those two deposits one line. Belle Plain and Callahan City are earlier courthouses. Use them only when the paper itself is that old.
