Once renamed Davis County. Ironstone hills are not a lumber tally.
Cass County's seat is Linden. The county file records a rename to Davis County and a return to Cass. An ironstone hill and a Linden filing are not the same paper. The books are sorted remotely.
An old deed may say Davis County. During the secession crisis the name became Davis, for Jefferson Davis, and the legislature of 1871 restored Cass, for Lewis Cass, the Michigan senator who favored annexation. The county file dates that Davis interval as 1861 to 1871. Linden is the seat. The county was created in 1846 from Bowie County. A current filing says Cass.
U.S. Highway 59 links Linden, Atlanta, and Queen City. Arkansas and Louisiana touch the east line. Ironstone caps the western hills. The Cusseta Mountains are that hill group, east of Marietta. The Sulphur River drains the north. Cypress Creek drains the rest. Iron and granite are the mineral names that set this ground apart from a generic woods county.
Linden can still be holding a yard count that does not match the settlement.
The July 2026 Comptroller figure used here shows no county sales tax for Cass County. State sales tax is 6.25%. Where a city has its own rate, that city rate stacks on the state rate and any county rate. The combined cap is 8.25%. City rates are not listed on this page.
Business personal property renditions go to the county appraisal district for Cass County. Put April 15 on the calendar. That district's form says which date controls the list.
The franchise report is due May 15. Texas has no state income tax. Neither date goes away because of that.
File the current month as Cass, at Linden. Pull the Davis County name out only when the paper itself dates from 1861 to 1871. Atlanta or Queen City belongs on the line when U.S. 59 paper prints that town. An iron stub or a granite stub is a separate line only when you hold that stub. A Linden shop deposit does not inherit the hill group.
Book a time if the deed still says Davis.
