Named for Henri Castro. Playas hold water. They do not hold your categories.
Castro County's seat is Dimmitt, on the high plains. The Comptroller figure used here includes a county sales tax. A ranch credit and a farm credit can still share one account until you name them. The close is remote.
Dimmitt can see two draws in one week. Running Water Draw enters from the New Mexico side and leaves toward Lamb and Hale. Frio Draw runs toward Swisher. Henri Castro, empresario and consul general to Paris for the Republic, is the namesake. The county file dates the county to 1876 and the parent to Bexar. Parmer lies west, Deaf Smith and Randall north, Swisher east, and Lamb and Hale south.
Playas sit on the surface between those draws. Corn, wheat, sorghum, cotton, sugarbeets, and soybeans are the crops the entry names. Nazareth is the German colony the entry ties to Father Joseph Reisdorff. The draws are the split that changes a deposit. The 1880s filing names are not.
Dimmitt can clear a draw-country credit and a playa-pasture credit in one week.
The July 2026 Comptroller figure used here shows a county sales tax of 0.5% for Castro County. State sales tax is 6.25%. Where a city has its own rate, that city rate stacks on the state rate and any county rate. The combined cap is 8.25%. City rates are not listed on this page.
Business personal property renditions go to the county appraisal district for Castro County. Put April 15 on the calendar. That district's form says which date controls the list.
The franchise report is due May 15. Texas has no state income tax. Neither date goes away because of that.
Give a Running Water slip and a Frio slip two captions, even when both clear at Dimmitt the same week. They leave the county in different directions. Corn, wheat, sorghum, or cotton on that plains month stay separate deposits. Put down the crop the check names. Nazareth paper stays Nazareth when the invoice says that colony town. Leave a playa off the deposit unless the paper is about that water.
