The Neches on the west, the Angelina on the southeast. Three lakes do not reconcile a file.
Cherokee County's seat is Rusk. The county is named for the Cherokee people who were expelled in 1839. A timber credit and a lake-town credit can still be different money. Remote is how this is looked at.
Rusk holds the courthouse between two rivers that do different work. The Neches is the west line. The Angelina River is the southeast line. The county is named for the Cherokee people, who were expelled from this ground in 1839, and it was formed in 1846 from Nacogdoches County. Shortleaf and loblolly pine with mixed hardwoods cover much of the hills. A timber credit and a lake-town credit can both be yours in one month.
Lake Palestine, Striker Creek Reservoir, and Lake Jacksonville are the reservoirs. Jacksonville is both a town and the lake name, so a bill has to say which. The Carrizo-Wilcox aquifer is the groundwater the entry names. Smith lies north, Rusk County and Nacogdoches east, Angelina County southeast, and Anderson and Houston west. Clays and iron ore sit with oil and gas on the resource list.
Rusk can see a timber week and a lakeside week in one file.
The July 2026 Comptroller figure used here shows a county sales tax of 0.5% for Cherokee County. State sales tax is 6.25%. Where a city has its own rate, that city rate stacks on the state rate and any county rate. The combined cap is 8.25%. City rates are not listed on this page.
Business personal property renditions go to the county appraisal district for Cherokee County. Put April 15 on the calendar. That district's form says which date controls the list.
The franchise report is due May 15. Texas has no state income tax. Neither date goes away because of that.
Put a scale ticket on the timber line only when you have the scale ticket. If the paper says Jacksonville, add town or lake so the reservoir is not posted as the city. Any other impoundment belongs on a bill only when the invoice already uses its name. The boundary rivers explain where the county sits. They do not belong on a payer line.
