Columbus is the seat of Colorado County, on the Colorado River.

Eagle Lake and Weimar are not the seat. Frelsburg is another town in the entry.

Colorado County's seat is Columbus. A river credit and a prairie credit can share a week. The close is remote.

Colorado County, in its own words

The Colorado River bisects this county from northwest to southeast, and Columbus is the courthouse on that river. The county dates to 1836 and is one of the original counties. Colorado is Spanish for colored. The northwest sits in the Blackland Prairie, with elm, oak, pecan, and mesquite along the streams. The rest is post oak savanna, with post oak, blackjack oak, and elm, plus walnuts and pecans along streams.

Eagle Lake, Weimar, and Frelsburg are the other towns the entry names. Skull Creek is a water name in the same account. Interstate 10, U.S. Highway 90, U.S. Highway 90A, State Highway 71, and the Union Pacific all cross here. Austin County, Wharton, Jackson, Lavaca, and Fayette touch the border.

Running a business here

Columbus can clear a river credit and a prairie credit together.

The July 2026 Comptroller figure used here shows a county sales tax of 0.5% for Colorado County. State sales tax is 6.25%. Where a city has its own rate, that city rate stacks on the state rate and any county rate. The combined cap is 8.25%. City rates are not listed on this page.

Business personal property renditions go to the county appraisal district for Colorado County. Put April 15 on the calendar. That district's form says which date controls the list.

The franchise report is due May 15. Texas has no state income tax. Neither date goes away because of that.

Working with Steven from Colorado County

You share the QuickBooks Online file. Bank feeds come with that access. Documents go through a secure link. The first conversation is a 30-minute Teams call. Each month you get a short written note. Returns go out for e-signature. A time to start is on the Bookings page. You do not drive in, mail a box, or wait at an office. Send the file. The first pass names what is off. You get that note back while there is still time to use it.

You are closing Columbus, and the week mixed work off the river bottom with work on the upland savanna. Take each deposit and write which of those two belts it came from, but only if you actually know. If you do not know, write Columbus and the date, and stop. A guessed belt will read later as if you had been sure.

Eagle Lake, Weimar, or Frelsburg belongs on the line when the invoice already prints that town. A bill from the lake town tells a different week from a bill you issued at the courthouse, even when both clear on the same Friday. Write the town you see. Skull Creek belongs in the description only when the paper is about work at that water. Finish the captions at your own desk in Columbus on the day the money lands, before two Fridays blur together in the bank. Set the half hour once each deposit carries the town printed on the invoice.
