Mussels gave the river its Spanish name. Eden, Eola, and Millersview are not the seat.
Concho County's seat is Paint Rock, on U.S. Highway 83. A river credit and a plateau credit can share a week. The close is remote.
Paint Rock is the seat on the Concho, and the county takes its name from the mussels in that river. Concho is Spanish for shell. The ground straddles the north edge of the Edwards Plateau. South of that line the plateau is flat and cut by deep creekbeds, with oak, juniper, and mesquite on thin stony soil. North of it the ground rolls, with steep slopes and benches, and clay loam carries grass. The county was formed in 1858 from Bexar County.
Eden, Eola, Millersview, and Lowake are other communities the entry names. Lowake sits on the Concho, San Saba and Llano Valley Railroad in the northwest. Near Eden the Goodnight-Loving Trail left the Western Trail toward New Mexico. U.S. Highway 83 reaches the seat.
Paint Rock can clear a river credit and a plateau credit together.
The July 2026 Comptroller figure used here shows a county sales tax of 0.5% for Concho County. State sales tax is 6.25%. Where a city has its own rate, that city rate stacks on the state rate and any county rate. The combined cap is 8.25%. City rates are not listed on this page.
Business personal property renditions go to the county appraisal district for Concho County. Put April 15 on the calendar. That district's form says which date controls the list.
The franchise report is due May 15. Texas has no state income tax. Neither date goes away because of that.
A Paint Rock week can include an Eden ticket and a Lowake ticket. Lowake is the northwest rail stop. Eden is the trail town in that same northwest. Put down Eola or Millersview when the invoice says so, each under its own name. If the work was on the flat plateau or on the rolling ground north of it, say which. The mussels explain the county name. They become a line item only if you harvest them.
