Muenster in 1889, Lindsay in 1891. Callisburg is another community.
Cooke County's seat is Gainesville, on the Oklahoma line. A prairie credit and a timber credit can share a month. The close is remote.
Gainesville sits against the Red River, with Oklahoma on the far bank, and the middle of Cooke County is Grand Prairie. A strip of Eastern Cross Timbers runs on the east and Western Cross Timbers on the west. William Gordon Cooke, a soldier in the Texas Revolution, is the namesake. The county was created in 1848 from Fannin County.
Muenster was founded in 1889 and Lindsay in 1891. Callisburg is another community the entry names. The Denison and Pacific Railway reached Gainesville in 1879. Settlements of the Peters colony reached this northern extension. Blackjack oak, post oak, and hackberry cover much of the upland. Elm, pecan, walnut, and cottonwood follow the creeks.
Gainesville can see a prairie credit and a timber credit in one month.
The July 2026 Comptroller figure used here shows a county sales tax of 0.5% for Cooke County. State sales tax is 6.25%. Where a city has its own rate, that city rate stacks on the state rate and any county rate. The combined cap is 8.25%. City rates are not listed on this page.
Business personal property renditions go to the county appraisal district for Cooke County. Put April 15 on the calendar. That district's form says which date controls the list.
The franchise report is due May 15. Texas has no state income tax. Neither date goes away because of that.
Separate the Grand Prairie money from the Cross Timbers money before you close a Gainesville month. If the paper names the east strip or the west strip, keep that strip on the line, because the two timber belts are different ground. Muenster and Lindsay can each send a bill into the same week. Callisburg the same way. Put down the town that is printed. The Butterfield road and the Chisholm Trail explain how people crossed. Leave them off a current payer line.
