Gatesville is the seat of Coryell County, between the Leon and Cowhouse Creek.

Named for the ranger James Coryell. Copperas Cove and Evant are other towns.

Coryell County's seat is Gatesville. A Leon credit and a Cowhouse credit can share a week. The file is read remotely.

Coryell County, in its own words

Gatesville sits between two drains. The Leon River takes the north and east of Coryell County. Cowhouse Creek takes the west and south. James Coryell, a frontiersman and Texas Ranger, is the namesake. The county was formed in 1854 from Bell County. Hamilton, Bosque, McLennan, Bell, and Lampasas are the neighbors. Soils are mostly alkaline, with limestone under them.

Copperas Cove was a camping ground for trail drivers. Evant is another community the entry names. The handbook notes that Fort Hood, now called Fort Cavazos, was established here in 1950.

Running a business here

Gatesville can hold a Leon paper and a Cowhouse paper.

The July 2026 Comptroller figure used here shows a county sales tax of 0.5% for Coryell County. State sales tax is 6.25%. Where a city has its own rate, that city rate stacks on the state rate and any county rate. The combined cap is 8.25%. City rates are not listed on this page.

Business personal property renditions go to the county appraisal district for Coryell County. Put April 15 on the calendar. That district's form says which date controls the list.

The franchise report is due May 15. Texas has no state income tax. Neither date goes away because of that.

Working with Steven from Coryell County

You share the QuickBooks Online file. Bank feeds come with that access. Documents go through a secure link. The first conversation is a 30-minute Teams call. Each month you get a short written note. Returns go out for e-signature. A time to start is on the Bookings page. You do not drive in, mail a box, or wait at an office. Send the file. The first pass names what is off. You get that note back while there is still time to use it.

Put the Leon job and the Cowhouse job on separate lines when both show up in a Gatesville week. Copperas Cove and Evant send their own invoices. Use the name the paper prints. The post dated 1950 is Fort Hood in the older wording and Fort Cavazos now. Use the name printed on the bill, not both, and not as a vendor unless the bill is from the post. A trail-camp story at Cove does not label a current Cove deposit.
