Named for George Cottle of the Alamo. The Tongue and the Little Wichita also drain here.
Cottle County's seat is Paducah. A Pease credit and a Tongue credit can share a month. The close is remote.
Paducah sits where you can see three drains: the Pease, the Tongue, and the Little Wichita. The west of Cottle County is rough and the east is level. George Washington Cottle, who died defending the Alamo, is the namesake. The handbook also says George Cottle. Those are two tellings of one Alamo name. The county was marked off in 1876 from Fannin County. Childress lies north, Motley west, King south, and Foard and Hardeman east.
U.S. Highways 62, 70, and 83 cross the county. A headquarters sat at the site of Paducah, and J. H. Cansler had a dugout on Buck Creek. Other communities the entry names include Cee Vee, Dunlap, Hackberry, Chalk, and Delwin.
Paducah can see a Pease credit and a Tongue credit.
The July 2026 Comptroller figure used here shows no county sales tax for Cottle County. State sales tax is 6.25%. Where a city has its own rate, that city rate stacks on the state rate and any county rate. The combined cap is 8.25%. City rates are not listed on this page.
Business personal property renditions go to the county appraisal district for Cottle County. Put April 15 on the calendar. That district's form says which date controls the list.
The franchise report is due May 15. Texas has no state income tax. Neither date goes away because of that.
Clear a Pease deposit and a Tongue deposit as two lines, even when both arrive at Paducah. The Little Wichita is a third water when the paper names it. If the work sat on the rough west side or the level east side, say so, because those checks do not read the same. Cee Vee, Dunlap, Chalk, Delwin, or Hackberry belongs on the line only when the invoice already prints that community. Cansler's dugout on Buck Creek is a settlement mark. Leave it off the vendor list.
