Crosbyton is the seat now. Emma became the seat of government in 1891, so an old paper can still say Emma. Lorenzo is another community. Stephen Crosby, a Texas land commissioner, is the namesake. The county was formed in 1876 from Bexar County. Blanco Canyon crosses from northwest to southeast, and Mount Blanco is the landmark in that canyon.
Drainage runs toward the forks of the Brazos and the White River, and toward playas. Dickens County lies east and Garza County lies south. U.S. Highway 82 crosses the ground. The Caprock and the South Plains are the setting.

The July 2026 Comptroller figure used here shows a county sales tax of 0.5% for Crosby County. State sales tax is 6.25%. Where a city has its own rate, that city rate stacks on the state rate and any county rate. The combined cap is 8.25%. City rates are not listed on this page.
Business personal property renditions go to the county appraisal district for Crosby County. Put April 15 on the calendar. That district's form says which date controls the list.
The franchise report is due May 15. Texas has no state income tax. Neither date goes away because of that.

A Blanco Canyon credit must stay in this county. Do not send it to the town of Blanco somewhere else. Mount Blanco is the landmark here. When the paper names a river or a playa, use that water and not a second one.
