Culberson County, in its own words

David Browning Culberson, a lawyer, member of Congress, and Civil War soldier, is the name. Van Horn is the seat. The county was formed in 1911 from El Paso County.

New Mexico lies north. Hudspeth, Reeves, and Jeff Davis are the Texas neighbors. Interstate 10 and U.S. Highway 80 cross the south. U.S. Highway 90 comes up from the south and ends at Van Horn. U.S. Highways 62 and 180 cross the northwest corner. Two Union Pacific lines cross the southwest. The terrain runs from mountains to nearly level ground, in the Rio Grande basin. Ranges the entry names include the Delaware, Beach, Wylie, Sierra Diablo, Van Horn, Apache, and Baylor. Guadalupe Peak stands in the Guadalupes. At Pine Springs, Albert Morrow's men met reinforcements from Fort Davis.

The July 2026 Comptroller figure used here shows no county sales tax for Culberson County. State sales tax is 6.25%. Where a city has its own rate, that city rate stacks on the state rate and any county rate. The combined cap is 8.25%. City rates are not listed on this page.

Business personal property renditions go to the county appraisal district for Culberson County. Put April 15 on the calendar. That district's form says which date controls the list.

The franchise report is due May 15. Texas has no state income tax. Neither date goes away because of that.
