Dallas County, in its own words

The Elm Fork and the West Fork of the Trinity meet near downtown Dallas, and a job on one fork is not automatically a job on the other. George Mifflin Dallas, vice president of the United States, is the namesake. The county was created in 1846 from Nacogdoches County and Robertson County. John Neely Bryan arrived in November 1841 and stayed. Dallas is the seat.

Farmers Branch stood near the Peters colony field office. Hord's Ridge is the predecessor of Oak Cliff. Cedar Springs was another early settlement. White Rock Creek and Mountain Creek are tributaries the entry names. Mesquite and Richardson are later communities in the same account.

The July 2026 Comptroller figure used here shows no county sales tax for Dallas County. State sales tax is 6.25%. Where a city has its own rate, that city rate stacks on the state rate and any county rate. The combined cap is 8.25%. City rates are not listed on this page.

Business personal property renditions go to the county appraisal district for Dallas County. Put April 15 on the calendar. That district's form says which date controls the list.

The franchise report is due May 15. Texas has no state income tax. Neither date goes away because of that.
