The shape is the name. Pecan Gap and Ben Franklin are rail towns.
Delta County's seat is Cooper. A north-river credit and a south-river credit can share a week. The close is remote.
Cooper sits between two rivers that also draw the county's outline. The North Sulphur River is the north line and the South Sulphur River is the south line. They join and form the east line. The triangular shape, like the Greek letter delta, is the name. The county was formed in 1870 from Hopkins County and Lamar County. State highways meet in Cooper.
The Santa Fe crosses the northwest by way of Pecan Gap and Ben Franklin. Charleston and Klondike are other communities. Lake Jordan sits southeast of Klondike, where an old saltworks was attempted. The ground is Blackland Prairie, deep clay to clay loam.
Cooper can hold a North Sulphur paper and a South Sulphur paper.
The July 2026 Comptroller figure used here shows a county sales tax of 0.5% for Delta County. State sales tax is 6.25%. Where a city has its own rate, that city rate stacks on the state rate and any county rate. The combined cap is 8.25%. City rates are not listed on this page.
Business personal property renditions go to the county appraisal district for Delta County. Put April 15 on the calendar. That district's form says which date controls the list.
The franchise report is due May 15. Texas has no state income tax. Neither date goes away because of that.
Say which Sulphur the job used before you close a Cooper week. The north river and the south river join on the east line, and a deposit can still be about only one of them. A Klondike invoice keeps Klondike. A Charleston invoice keeps Charleston. The saltworks attempt near the lake is history, so it does not become a product line. The two rail towns on the northwest edge belong on a bill only when the paper names them. Ben Franklin here is the town on that line.
