Lewis Henry Carhart led the Methodist colony. The first site is under Greenbelt Reservoir.
Donley County's seat is Clarendon. A colony credit and a rail credit can share a month. The close is remote.
Stockton P. Donley, a frontier lawyer and Texas Supreme Court justice, is the name. Clarendon is the seat. The county was marked off in 1876 from Bexar County.
Lewis Henry Carhart, a Methodist minister, led colonists and named Clarendon for his wife, Clara. Cowboys called it Saints' Roost because of the prohibition rules. The first site was later covered by Greenbelt Reservoir. The relocated Clarendon was a railroad division point. The Salt Fork of the Red is a water the entry names. Hall County and the Panhandle setting are the neighbors in that account.
Clarendon can see a colony credit that is not the old flooded site.
The July 2026 Comptroller figure used here shows no county sales tax for Donley County. State sales tax is 6.25%. Where a city has its own rate, that city rate stacks on the state rate and any county rate. The combined cap is 8.25%. City rates are not listed on this page.
Business personal property renditions go to the county appraisal district for Donley County. Put April 15 on the calendar. That district's form says which date controls the list.
The franchise report is due May 15. Texas has no state income tax. Neither date goes away because of that.
Clarendon closes your month, and the money that reaches you in Donley County usually arrives as more than one kind of payment. Livestock is most of what your farm brings in, the entry says, and that includes hogs and horses along with the herd. Your wheat, sorghum, and alfalfa are the smaller crop side. When both clear together, put your herd sale on its own line and your grain sale on another. If you mix them, you hide which one paid the feed bill, and you will plan the next season on a blur.
Donley County adds no sales tax of its own, so the municipal amount is the only local piece on your slip. A sale you made in Clarendon can carry a different municipal amount than a sale you made in Hedley, and you should name the place so the filing does not have to guess.
A royalty, a Greenbelt Reservoir receipt, or money tied to Clarendon College is a third arrival in your week. Keep that receipt off your livestock line when it shows up beside a herd sale. Send your folder with the cash labeled the way you could not place it.
