Rocksprings is the seat of Edwards County, on the Edwards Plateau.

Bullhead, later Vance, held the court before 1891. Wool and mohair took the place of farming.

Edwards County's seat is Rocksprings. A wool clip and a mohair clip can share a month. The close is remote.

Edwards County, in its own words

Rocksprings is the seat now. The courthouse town began as Bullhead, later called Vance, and Rock Springs, the older two-word spelling, became the seat in 1891. The handbook prints the present name as one word, Rocksprings. Hayden Edwards, one of the first American settlers of Nacogdoches, is the namesake. The county was formed in 1858 from Bexar County and was not organized until 1883. In 1913 Real County was cut from the eastern section, so an old deed can describe ground that is no longer this county.

The east rolls, with hills and caves. The west is flatter. More than fifteen springs run all year, and the Llano, the Nueces, and the West Nueces rise here. Settlers found the ground poor for crops and fit for sheep and angora goats. Wool and mohair became the work, and Rocksprings took the nickname Top-o-the-World for that clip. Oak, juniper, mesquite, and cedar stand on the stony clays. A wool check and a mohair check can share a month and still be different money.

Running a business here

Rocksprings can clear a wool clip and a mohair clip together.

The July 2026 Comptroller figure used here shows no county sales tax for Edwards County. State sales tax is 6.25%. Where a city has its own rate, that city rate stacks on the state rate and any county rate. The combined cap is 8.25%. City rates are not listed on this page.

Business personal property renditions go to the county appraisal district for Edwards County. Put April 15 on the calendar. That district's form says which date controls the list.

The franchise report is due May 15. Texas has no state income tax. Neither date goes away because of that.

Working with Steven from Edwards County

You share the QuickBooks Online file. Bank feeds come with that access. Documents go through a secure link. The first conversation is a 30-minute Teams call. Each month you get a short written note. Returns go out for e-signature. A time to start is on the Bookings page. You do not drive in, mail a box, or wait at an office. Send the file. The first pass names what is off. You get that note back while there is still time to use it.

A mohair check from angora goats and a wool check from sheep can clear at Rocksprings on one Friday. You keep the animal that is printed on your check. The plateau nickname Top-o-the-World does not decide which fiber you were paid for.

Bullhead and Vance are earlier courthouse names. You open those only when the paper in front of you carries that date. Anything you file now uses Rocksprings as one word.

Real County was cut from the east in 1913. When your legal description sits east of that cut and the deed is later, that land has left this folder. A job still on the Edwards side stays with you, on the rolling hills or on the flatter west.

You name a headwater only when your invoice already names it. Three rivers rise in this county, so if you pick one you leave the other two off. Undeveloped iron ore, sulfur, and silver stay out unless your stub names them.

You are sorting fiber, not retelling the ranch. You put the fiber word next to the amount. The seat spelling and the old courthouse names are a separate question, and you answer that one from the date on your paper.
