Ellis County's seat is Waxahachie. You can meet nearby because Dallas-Fort Worth is close, and a farm deposit and a plant stub can still be two papers.

Ellis County, in its own words

Waxahachie is the seat, on Blackland Prairie south of Dallas along Interstate 35E. Richard Ellis, president of the convention that produced the Texas Declaration of Independence, is the namesake. The legislature established the county on December 20, 1849, from Navarro County. Waxahachie was named the seat the next year on land from E. W. Rogers. Dallas County lies north, Kaufman east, Navarro and Hill south, and Johnson west. Steven is nearby. Dallas-Fort Worth is close.

The Trinity River is the eastern boundary. Red Oak, Waxahachie, Mill, and Chambers creeks drain most of the county toward that river. The Austin Escarpment, a chalk ridge, runs across and cuts off drainage to the southeast. Mountain Creek drains the northwest the other way. Away from the streams the prairie is nearly treeless except for scattered mesquite. Ash, cottonwood, pecan, hackberry, bois d'arc, oak, and elm follow the water. Chalk and shale feed cement works. Clay feeds brick. Gas, oil, and stone are the other resource names in the entry. A farm deposit and a plant deposit can share a Waxahachie week.

Running a business here

The rate question comes after you know which pile the deposit was.

The July 2026 Comptroller figure used here shows no county sales tax for Ellis County. State sales tax is 6.25%. Where a city has its own rate, that city rate stacks on the state rate and any county rate. The combined cap is 8.25%. City rates are not listed on this page.

Business personal property renditions go to the county appraisal district for Ellis County. Put April 15 on the calendar. That district's form says which date controls the list.

The franchise report is due May 15. Texas has no state income tax. Neither date goes away because of that.

Working with Steven from Ellis County

You share the QuickBooks Online file. Bank feeds come with that access. Documents go through a secure link. The first conversation is a 30-minute Teams call. Each month you get a short written note. Returns go out for e-signature. A time to start is on the Bookings page. You do not drive in, mail a box, or wait at an office. Send the file. The first pass names what is off. You get that note back while there is still time to use it.

You can meet nearby because Dallas-Fort Worth is close, and your month can still close on a screen. The filing county is Ellis. The courthouse town is Waxahachie. A bill that only says Dallas is the county to the north, so put Ellis on the line when the work was here.

If your check is a farm deposit off the blackland, say so. If your stub is cement, brick, or another plant bill, you give that stub its own line. The creeks do not all leave in one direction. Four of the creeks move toward the Trinity on the east, and one leaves the other way. When your paper names a creek, you use that creek and leave the others off. You can leave the escarpment out of a bill that never mentions the ridge. Navarro is the 1849 parent. It does not receive your stack. The Comptroller line will not choose the pile for you.

You send the farm line and the plant line apart. If you drove in from Waxahachie and the bill still shows only a Dallas address, your note should say the work was in Ellis. Being close does not move your courthouse. You still file this month at Waxahachie.
