The city history puts Abilene in northeast Taylor County, cut by the Texas and Pacific tracks, begun by ranchers and that railroad. It names Hardin-Simmons, Abilene Christian, and Dyess Air Force Base. The city row also includes Jones County. Combined sales tax is a flat 2% city tax plus the state.

The Texas and Pacific cuts this flat corner east to west, with Interstate 20 beside it. U.S. highways 83, 84, and 277 cross north and south. Buffalo hunters and ranchers were on the ground before that townsite, and Buffalo Gap held the seat until the tracks arrived. A hide from the older camp is not a Dyess payday.
Simmons College is the Baptist school that later took the name Hardin-Simmons. Childers Classical Institute is the school that later took the name Abilene Christian. A charge from either one can be tuition, a bookstore, or a vendor the school owes. Dyess Air Force Base is the installation Congress approved so the payroll would keep coming. The ring-up beside the tracks is merchandise. Oil, agriculture, commerce, and light manufacturing all show up in the later mix. A barrel, a bale, and a shirt still stay in separate lanes. Buffalo Gap on a yellowed scrap means the older seat, not Dyess.
The Abilene and Northern and the Abilene and Southern were extra rail links civic leaders chased. A freight bill on either of those short lines is haulage. It is not tuition and it is not a base payday. Jones can hold the roof while the tracks sit in Taylor. Name the roof when the question is property. Leave the ring-up on this row. A preset that hears West Texas and pastes on a transit authority is wrong. No transit authority is on this row.
