You searched because the Abilene file is behind and a date is close. The city tax on the Comptroller line is 2%, with no transit authority beside it. The path under the history is what you send, what happens first, and what you get back. There is no Abilene office to sit in.
Dyess Air Force Base was completed near Abilene in 1956, and the Taylor County entry in the Handbook of Texas credits that base with a lift in the local economy. The same entry keeps three campuses in the city: Hardin-Simmons University, Abilene Christian University, and McMurry University. The Abilene city entry adds the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and Texas State Technical College West Texas as of 2010. Oil was found in the county in 1929 and became an important part of the economy in the early 1940s. Livestock, especially cattle, sheep, angora goats, and hogs, sits beside wheat, sorghum, hay, cotton, and oats. The handbook also names meat packing, soft-drink bottling, men's clothing, plumbing fittings, watches, clocks, aircraft equipment, and goods and services tied to oil.
Taylor County is the center. Callahan County and Jones County sit outside it. Abilene is listed twice, once under Taylor and once under Jones. Both rows are a 2% city tax, a zero county column, and an empty transit column. The state's 6.25% plus that 2% is the entire 8.25%. Merkel copies the Taylor row. Clyde, in Callahan, copies it as well. No unnamed slice is left between the pieces you can read.
An owner here is not reading a port page or a capitol page. The week is a base town, three universities, cattle and wheat, and a rate that is entirely a city tax on top of the state.

Taylor, Callahan, and Jones are three appraisal districts. Business personal property renditions are due April 15 to the district for the county where the property sits. A truck kept in Abilene and equipment kept in Clyde do not share one list just because both cities show 8.25% on the rate file.
Name the mix before you file. State sales tax is 6.25%. Abilene in Taylor County is a 2% city tax, no county tax, no transit, combined 8.25%. The Abilene line in Jones County is the same mix. Merkel is the same mix again. Clyde in Callahan County is the same mix. The headline matches. The county on the rendition still does not.
The franchise report is due May 15. A no-tax-due threshold exists, and the dollar cutoff is not printed on this page. Texas has no state income tax. That fact does not retire the sales-tax return. The permit, not the city line, says whether the return is monthly, quarterly, or yearly.
Thursday in Abilene can be a parts counter, a register, and money that arrived only because the base week turned over. Dyess Air Force Base gives the town that rhythm. Hardin-Simmons, Abilene Christian, and McMurry keep a second rhythm, the academic one. Neither rhythm is an account name. Aircraft fittings and a repair at a watch shop can share a drawer and still be different sales. Money you still owe someone is not a sale, even when the base payday is why the customer had cash.
Pass across the sales-tax return already filed, what the bank downloaded for those days, and the tickets that still name a city. Leave the year messy. The only question is whether a slip is Abilene's own 2% city tax or a Merkel or Clyde slip wearing the same cap. Same 8.25% on the customer's receipt is not the same place.
The reply fits on a single page. It pulls Abilene city tax away from every other town, and it marks a payable that was built by multiplying deposits by a rate someone remembered. You have that page before the date already printed on your return, and sooner if the franchise report is the item closing in. You sign without mailing paper. You stay in Abilene.
