The city history has Isaac Conroe's sawmill on Stewarts Creek, then moved to the railroad junction that became the town. George Strake's oilfield opened southeast of town. Lake Conroe is the other direction. Lumber, then oil. A mill invoice and a field invoice are not one check.

That junction became the station. George Strake found oil southeast of town. Lake Conroe lies the other direction. An old military field northeast of town later served local flying. Lumber, then the southeast field. A lake house is a third geography.
