The city history puts Sugar Land on Oyster Creek in Fort Bend County, east of the Brazos, on land that became Oakland Plantation: cotton, corn, and sugarcane, then a raw-sugar mill. Later the account says raw sugar was imported for the refinery. A mill stack and a retail slip are not one journal.
Sugar Land is in Fort Bend County. The census counted 111,026 people. Combined sales tax on the Comptroller city file is 8.25%. City tax is 2%. No transit authority is listed. No special-purpose district is listed. State tax 6.25% plus the named local pieces equals the combined 8.25%. County sales tax on the county file, not added on top of the combined city rate: Fort Bend none. Business personal property rendition is due April 15 to the appraisal district for the county of the property (Fort Bend County). Franchise (margin) tax report is due May 15. A no-tax-due threshold exists. Its dollar amount is not printed here. Texas has no personal income tax. The permit sets monthly, quarterly, or yearly sales-tax filing. Oyster Creek and U.S. 90A, east of the Brazos, seven miles from Richmond, in northeastern Fort Bend. Samuel May Williams received the grant. Nathaniel Williams and Matthew Williams ran Oakland Plantation in cotton, corn, and sugarcane, and they put up a raw-sugar mill. Benjamin Terry and William Kyle bought Oakland later. The Sugar Land Railroad was the short line. After the cane duty changed, raw sugar was imported for the refinery, and a paper mill sat in that same investment.
A cane season, an imported raw-sugar lot, and a paper roll are three purchases. Cotton from Oakland is a fourth if you still handle fiber, which almost nobody here does. The creek explains the old plantation water. It is not a product. Richmond next door has a different name on the ticket. If the saved place says Richmond or Houston, it leaves, even though the interstate feeling runs that way.
Fort Bend is the roof. Proximity to Houston is geography in the account. It is not permission to file the Houston transit name. This row is a flat local piece plus the state.
