The Handbook of Texas says Martin De Leon established the town on the Guadalupe at Cypress Grove and named it for Guadalupe Victoria. Jose Carbajal platted it. It shipped toward Linnville on the way to the La Bahia Road trade. Combined sales tax is 8.25 percent. City tax is 1.5 percent.

Martín De León established the town on the Guadalupe River at a place known earlier as Cypress Grove, and named it Guadalupe Victoria for the first president of the republic of Mexico. José M. J. Carbajal platted it. It sat on the La Bahía Road, raised stock, and shipped toward the port of Linnville. A Council of Ten Friends governed early, then alcaldes, among them Martín De León, Silvestre De León, Plácido Benavides, and John J. Linn. U.S. highways 59, 77, and 87 meet at the seat of Victoria County.
Cypress Grove on an old description is this site, not a nursery product. Guadalupe Victoria as a two-word name is the earlier town name, not a second municipality you file separately. De León colony paper is not a modern feed ticket. Linnville was the port they shipped toward. A bill that says Linnville or Port Lavaca leaves unless the work was here. La Bahía Road is the old route, not a toll you collect.
The row is Victoria County only, city tax 1.5 percent, combined 8.25 percent, no transit authority. Stock you shipped is not the same as goods you sold on the square Carbajal platted. Say stock or square. The council and the alcaldes are government history. They are not a payroll unless you are looking at an actual public invoice, and even then the place name on that invoice has to be this city. The river is the Guadalupe.
